I live on a council estate on Hackney’s Murder Mile. I walk a lot around here during the day. Every single week I see some scary things, reasons to be afraid of going outside or fearful of the future. But I won’t let it get me down.
I also see a lot of positive things, people’s kindness and their determination to be part of the solution.
Locally, if the recession hasn’t hit you and your family …and friends yet, then you are very lucky – the chances are it has indeed hit you and those you care about. Globally, if you’re not worried by what’s happening with the economy and the environment and concerned about where it might all lead, then as the saying goes, you’re not really paying attention.
We’re living a frightening present and looking at a scary future. But don’t lose hope. Our positive actions do have a positive impact. We can win this.
